New Attack Spoofs Walmart to Get Credit Card Details

Ordering online is easy.

Scammers know this. And in this new spray-and-pray campaign, they’re hoping to be even a little helpful.

In this email phishing campaign, hackers have spoofed a message from Walmart. The idea is to get you to think it's from Walmart—though it isn't—and to call the “customer service” number to cancel an order. Here’s the email:

The idea is not to target those purchasing Play Stations. It’s to get people to see the charge for $599.99 and, in a panic, call the number to cancel the charge.

When you call, you’ll have to give the person on the other line your credit card number info. That’s when they’ll take that number and begin using it for their own purposes.
