Stop Phishing. Stop Ransomware.

Written by Jeremy Fuchs | July 30, 2021

As ransomware garners major headlines around the globe, the conversation naturally turns to the following question: How do you stop ransomware?

Here's the thing: The best way to stop ransomware is by stopping phishing.

How do we know this?

A new report from Coveware confirms it. According to the report, 42% of ransomware attacks start with phishing. Further, 42% come from attacks against Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) services. Of those RDP attacks, some of them start by gaining access to credentials through phishing.

Notice, too, the increase in phishing as a vector since the end of 2018.

When folks think about ransomware, they probably think about network intrusion. And that certainly does happen.

But it's important to know that when there is phishing, there will be ransomware.

It's never been more important to take steps to prevent phishing. With Avanan, every file and every attachment is scanned for malware. When combined with Artificial Intelligence, it leads to full phishing prevention that results in a 98.2% reduction in phishing reaching the inbox.

The formula is clear. Stop phishing. Stop ransomware.
