Administrators can now define exactly which file types are permitted to be sent, received, or shared across all protected applications - ensuring stronger control over potentially risky content transfers.
With this new capability, Avanan allows organizations to enforce a positive security model by only allowing specific file types to pass through their environment. Any non-permitted file types are automatically classified as malicious and processed according to the configured malware workflow. All permitted file types continue to undergo full scanning for malware and phishing indicators, ensuring that even approved formats remain protected. This approach minimizes exposure to hidden threats embedded in unauthorized formats and strengthens protection against common delivery methods used in phishing and malware campaigns.
To enable this feature, navigate to Security Settings > Exceptions > Anti-Malware > Block List, create a new block list, and select the “Block all file types except” option. Then, specify the list of file types that should be allowed.
